When is the Right Age to Start Botox®?

Deciding when to start Botox® can feel confusing, especially with so many opinions online. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Everybody ages differently, so the best age to begin Botox depends on your skin, goals, and family history.

At Great Lakes Health, Wellness & Aesthetics, our team, led by renowned health and wellness optimization specialist Dr. Anne Abrahamson, helps patients develop personalized treatment plans that give them natural results they love. Read on to learn how we help you decide the right time for your first Botox session.

When Do Most People Start Botox?

Botox is often thought of as something you do once you already have deep wrinkles, but it’s increasingly known as a preventative treatment as well. We typically see patients considering Botox in three general age groups:

• Late 20s to early 30s: In your 20s, you might notice lines when you frown or raise your eyebrows, but those lines usually go away when your face relaxes. That’s a sign your skin still has strong collagen and elasticity. But if you start seeing lines that stick around, even when you’re not moving your face, Botox might help prevent those lines from growing more prominent.

• 30s: By your 30s, you likely have some existing lines in areas like the forehead and around the eyes. At this stage of life, Botox can treat existing lines and maintain a youthful look.

• 40s, 50s, and beyond: Recent statistics show more than half of Botox patients are 40-54. In your 40s and 50s, Botox is a great option to soften deeper wrinkles, prevent new lines from creeping in, and refresh the face without surgery.

Factors That Influence When You Start Botox

Genetics, sun exposure, smoking, stress, and even sleep can affect how and when wrinkles develop. Some people may have significant wrinkles as early as their late 20s, while others may maintain smooth skin until their 50s.

That’s why looking at your skin’s condition and not just your age is important. Some people may not need Botox until later in life, while others might benefit from preventive treatments.

Our experienced team takes the time to do a full skin and lifestyle evaluation to make customized Botox recommendations for you.
